About the Job
Looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity as a System Architect for Modem and PHY? United Micro is seeking talented individuals to join our team in Munich, Germany where you will be working on the cutting-edge Cellular Modem PHY.
Your Responsibilities
As System Architect (Modem / PHY), you will 
  • work on the definition of our 5G NR modem architecture with a focus on the physical layer.
  • analyze required 3GPP features end-to-end, i.e. from the antenna to the application processor.
  • define feature related UE capabilities and requirements
  • do a functional break-down and identify required changes and updates to the underlying modem architecture.
  • cooperate closely with algorithm, firmware/software, IC design and platform architecture teams to make sure all aspects of modem features are sufficiently explored and well understood.
  • define the modem system architecture, e.g. hardware / software architecture, interfaces and partitioning. Guide the development teams to develop leading 5G NR products.
  • make sure to underpin the architecture feasibility with simulations and estimates of e.g. timing, performance, processor load, hardware complexity or power consumption.
  • make sure during all system design phases adjacent product development fields are sufficiently covered, e.g. trace and debug, design verification, field trials, certification.
  • prepare make-or-buy decisions, analyze and select 3rd party IP solutions.
  • specify the integration of hardware and software components into the 5G modem system.
  • deliver corresponding concept and architecture documentation and define verification objectives.
  • work closely with the hardware and software design and verification teams.
Education and Experience
  • Master's degree or above in Communication / Electrical / Computer / Microelectronics / Electronic Engineering.
  • 5+ experience in a relevant field
  • Profound knowledge in the field of 5G/NR, 3GPP PHY standards and receiver algorithms.
  • Familiar with 3GPP L2/3 standards.
  • Deep understanding of signal processing hardware and processor architectures.
  • Knowledge in chip hardware architecture, software/firmware architecture, interface and system design
  • Background on cellular modem architectures from end-to-end.
  • Self-motivated and willing to assume responsibility for parts of the system architecture through all phases of product development
  • Excellent English skills
  • Good communication and coordination skills, a good team worker.
  • Experience in working in a global team.
